Hi, everyone. - A quick update for Summer 2017

Hey, guys, it's Asma,

For the people that frequent my blog, I'm sorry I haven't been posting that much.

The reason is that I am currently taking summer classes in hopes to finish my remaining classes for my degree. Also working two jobs in this heat. (sigh) I assume you all know my struggles already if you've stuck with me this far.

I am working on some posts for you all. It might take long and I wish you all could stuck around for them. I have some thoughts I'm trying to scrap together.

Anyway, I hope your Ramadan is going well for all of you.

P.S. I will buy Photoshop.

P.P.S. I'm on Instagram and Twitter all the time to cool off and fangirl, so again if you wanna follow you can.

I love you all. Thank you. I appreciate you all for reading.

Paramore: After Laughter - Album Review

Disclaimer:

This is a quick disclaimer for any Paramore fans who may visit this page.

I’d like to say first off before I start the “review” that this is not an official review. I have no official knowledge of music. Or an English degree. I am begrudgingly a biology major and a music hoarder. You may simply call this a regular blog post of an album I’ve been listening to. Mostly, I just wanted to talk about my fandom for Paramore, the concept of the album, and my relationship with the songs by talking about how each track affected me.

Songs I would like BTS's Vocal Line to Cover (pretty please)

I'm out of my frump. Classes are over. I barely passed my ridiculous finals. Now I have a week's time of doing nothing except recovering for this horrible semesters.

Anyways, voting for BTS for the Billboard awards continues and everyday I tried to come up with fun ways for tweet the #BTSBBMAs. (Also if you live in America, vote through the website linked here). I've done cute Jihope gifs, dark BTS quotes with beautiful fansite pictures and bright pink BTS quotes with gifs.

A couple days ago, I decided to compile a list of songs I wanted to share so that through some mind telepathy BTS's vocal line could hear me ask them to cover some songs for me. This came from Tae's his Philippine VLive when he asked Armys to ask Jimin to cover the song "I'm the one" by DJ Dummy and his band of weirdos + Chance the Rapper (he independent so he ok) because it was his favorite new song. I had the pleasure of watching the music video today and I legit had a stank face throughout the whole thing. Beaver's voice is good and I can hear Jimin sing the chorus. But I'd rather not have it.

I also just wanted to recommend some good music for you guys.

So here are the songs I thought would be great if the Vocal Line covered them:

The Rules:
- 5 songs each
- Take listen to the original song on any platform or watch its music video
- Imagine JungVMinJin sing it with a full production

Relevant Song Recommendation: We Cry by The Script

I've been so out of sorts these last two weeks. I'm happy about another semester gone by, but I have been in despair about another 4 months wasted doing something I hate and wishing to be working on what I want.

I started listening to all of my older music collection and I fell back in love with this song: "We Cry" by The Script.

Read the lyrics here (lovely and depressing):

New Artist Alert: Aminé

Ok, I'm so freaking late on this young man. This song came out last year.

But I have been obsessed over this song for more than a week now. I've been singing and dancing randomly to this.

I also love this choreography by Brian Puspos.

[Update] Just Saying - Quick Thoughts about Tae

To say I was grossly uninformed would be understatement. I'm sorry.

If you want to continue reading, those are my thoughts from a couple days ago. I thought these people were merely wayward fans, lost in their path. But I realized now people have been working hard to clean up the trash, while I just brushed it under the rug. Taking responsibility for my words, I'll post this explanation I found from Instagram. Reading this enlightened me and may enlighten you.

Hang in there, baby... New posts are coming.

Hi, everyone.

Again after a two weeks of school kicking my ass and self-doubt and hint of laziness, I'm working on some new posts. I just have to write them.

Please anticipate.

The semester's almost over. (dance) The semester's almost over. (dance)
The semester's almost over. (dance) The semester's almost over. (dance)
The semester's almost over. (dance) The semester's almost over. (dance)
The semester's almost over. (dance) The semester's almost over. (dance)

K, bye.
See you then.

Good Music and Good Grades - My Good Friday

John Mayer has such good sportsmanship. He noticed that Kendrick Lamar's much-anticipated 3rd album was coming out on the same day his album was. He said:

That's my buddy.
So, I'm so excited because I'm pretty sure I aced the hell out of my Organic Chemistry exam.

I listened to both John and Kendrick's album. Guess which one I bought.

John Mayer, sigh. Why...?

Why did you leave all your best songs for the last moment?

My eyes literally rolled back at all of the great riffs and the new stories he gave us from the 4 last four songs. I'm so mad that he made me say all these bad things about him only to rock a whole ass new album with just a few duds that I might honestly like once he performs them live and I can watch them online. Seriously, this album. Give me a few more listens and I might just buy it.

KENDRICK LAMAR'S ALBUM is quite honestly another masterpiece. I remember what he said last time when "To Pimp a Butterfly" came out. To just live and breathe the piece of work and think about like it's a book. People were calling it "THE BEST CONCEPTUAL RAP ALBUM OF ALL TIME" but I won't yet. They are doing that again 2 years later. I'd just like to say that he should really be proud of bringing out another vision to add to his legacy of speaking about his struggle and his dreams for his future. Congratulations.

Obviously I haven't read any lyrics yet but I'm just expressing my thoughts from my first listen.

1. BTW: I really do need to see the lyrics. He is PrEaChInG.
2. It all connects. Can't you see? It connects. I love stories that do that. (geeking out)
3. Rihanna did a great job in her feature. U2 too. (hehe) I don't know who Zacari is but I'm willing to find out.
4. His storytelling is my dream. I wish I could tell stories and construct storylines like him.
5. His detail to sound is amazing. The different tones that he goes through, the different undulations, the different accents, they all mean different things that created depth to the songs and give more to hunt for as listeners. He did the same in "To Pimp a Butterfly".

I kinda wish that Humble was little higher on the tracklist. However, I do understand how it progressed with the story.

I listened to the album on high volume in my car on my commute home for school and I don't know what I did to deserve such a blessed day.

And BTS posted on Twitter.

And Daewon of Madtown did a live that I was there for.

And I got my new glasses.

;))))))

*images are my own screenshots. Comments on John Mayer's post were blurred out by me.

Relevant Song Suggestion: "Thank you" by MKTO

So I was thinking today you all need a song recommendation within the effed-up reality show of an administration. I picked "Thank you" by MKTO.

Read the lyrics here (they are poignant):

Yo, this one right here is for all the drop out-of-schoolers.
The future cougars, the Mary Jane abusers.
The ones that chose to be losers, for all the Misfit Kids and total outcasts MKTO.
This one's for you role models.

We are the ones, the ones you left behind.
Don't tell us how, tell us how to live our lives.
Ten million strong, we're breaking all the rules.
Thank you for nothing, 'cause there's nothing left to lose.

Thank you for feeding us years of lies.
Thank you for the wars you left us to fight.
Thank you for the world you ruined overnight.
But we'll be fine, yeah we'll be fine.

Thank you for the world you broke, like yolk and it ain't no joke.
So cold and there ain't no coat, just me, my friends, my folks and
We better do what we like.
So raise that bird up high and when they ask you why.
Just stand there laugh and smile.

We are the ones, the ones you left behind.
Don't tell us how, tell us how to live our lives.
Ten million strong, we're breaking all the rules.
Thank you for nothing, 'cause there's nothing left to lose.

Na na na na
Na na na na na na
Na na na na
Na na na na na na (Thank you)

Thank you for the times you said, "Don't make a sound."
Thanks for the ropes you used to hold us down.
'Cause when I break through I'ma use them to reach the clouds.
We ain't comin' down, we ain't comin' down

Look, ma, I finally made it, this world is too damn jaded.
My life is just like Vegas, go big, go home get faded.
Been a problem since '92.
Can't shut me down curfew and them girls I'll take a few.
Do what I wanna do.

We are the ones, the ones you left behind.
Don't tell us how, tell us how to live our lives.
Ten million strong, we're breaking all the rules.
Thank you for nothing, cause there's nothing left to lose.

Na na na na (hey)
Na na na na na na
Na na na na
Na na na na na na

Na na na na (hey)
Na na na na na na
Na na na na
Na na na na na na (Thank you)

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
From head to toe from the soul you ripped apart.
I say, "Thank you", I say, "Thank you."
Yeah oh, thank you

We are the ones, the ones you left behind.
Don' tell us how, tell us how to live our lives.
Ten million strong, we're breaking all the rules.
Thank you for nothing, cause there's nothing left to lose.

We are the ones, the ones you left behind.
Don't tell us how, tell us how to live our lives.
Ten million strong, we're breaking all the rules.
Thank you for nothing, cause there's nothing left to lose. (Thank you)

Na na na na (Yo if you don't like what they tell you to do)
Na na na na na na (Don't do it)
Na na na na (If you don't want to be who they want you to be)
Na na na na na na (Screw it)

Na na na na (It's your world, it's your life)
Na na na na na na (And they ruined it)
Na na na na (Role models, tune in, turn up)
Na na na na na na (Drop out!)

Since I am not in any sort of position to protest or fight with this stupid tanning salon of a government, and all I can realistically do is shake my head at the news and laugh at late night comedy shows, I'd like to thank MKTO for making a song that let me vent passive aggressively.

This song came out in 2013. Four years later, it feels like we are living in the same wrapped reality where we have to constantly be aware of our morals and the people we associate with. In the song, they refer to "10 million (millennials) strong with nothing left to lose". They are incorrect. I am a millennial, who at this point, has a lot to lose. If I stop my hustle now to focus on these crises, I will lose all of the hard work I put in to graduate college with a Bachelors in Bio-Medicine. However, I do feel gross when thinking that people are suffering everywhere and there is nothing I can do to help them except cry, moan, and complain.

I don't know. Basically, I heard the song on shuffle in my iTunes and I thought about you all.

Prayers for the world,

Asma

2 Years in KPop - Asma's Thoughts

I think it's funny how detached I've been from American music for 2 years now.

I've been listening to KPop, which has continually been delivering bops. I've discovered a new style of music to appreciate. Thank you.

By the way, Monsta X's new album, The Clan pt. 2.5 [Beautiful] is killer. I have been loving "All I do" and "5:14 (Last Page)" a lot lately.

John Mayer - Some Thoughts about The Search for Everything

I wanna talk about how I felt about John Mayer. As much as I anticipated his new music and raved about it on my social media, I was disappointed.

One question: What happened to the lyrics?

2017 Somali Men's Fashion Show?

Hallaluhr!!! Oh, THank you Lord you have finally presented us with ok-looking Somali men on social media.

So there was this thing called the "Super Model Challenge" in Hargeisa, Somaliland. And guess what, the most important thing happened.

The men were handsome.

HI EVERYONE I MISSED YOU!

Hi, guys!!! I missed you all!

This semester has been another rough one but after taking this week, as it was Spring Break, off, I think my wounds from the disapproval of myself from these past few exams have healed. I can write to you guys again. Hope you didn't miss me too much. Hehe.

I'll start posting some new stuff gradually in short bursts, maybe, about what I've been thinking and doing. I spend most of my spare time retweeting or liking things on Twitter or Instagram. Thank you for waiting. Mwah!!!!

Asma's 2K16 - Fave K-Music Stages and Performances

Ok, now onto something lighter...

S

There were so many KPop/K-Music performances last year that had me wheezing for air. Stages that made me cry, shout, grab my chest, fangirl etc. There is not any criteria really. I just wanted to add a sentence to how much each performance made me feel. And links for you to check them out. Enjoy!

*2nd Note: This is only the opinion of one person; ME. So I apologize if my musical taste or mainstream preferences doesn’t match yours. Thank you for reading and maybe even agreeing.

These are my favorite K-Music comebacks, stages, and performances.

The New Administration Blows - My Thoughts

Hi, everyone. I'm back with a quick thought. Thanks for waiting.

I just wanted a chance to explain the state I'm in right now:

So, my Baabo (father in Somali) is back home safe from Somaliland yesterday. He was jet-lagged, hungry, and obviously stopped by customs and profiled. But after an hour of questioning, he finally arrived back home. He was questioned by an agent, whom I understand was told to do something by the government they work for, but he still gave his name and number to the lawyers to be added to a lawsuit against the administration.

Asma's Daily Throw-up #16

Hi, everyone, I have a quick update.

So... the spring semester has started and it is already kicking me in the brain and feels. I am taking Microbiology and Organic Chemistry. Organic Chemistry is what made me to take a leave from university during 2016 spring semester. And I've been scared out of my mind. I failed, y'all. Like a gigantic red F. I basically spent the days of January coming up with ways how not to fail again.

I won't be writing as often as I want. When I have the urge to type something out, I will. But for the longform opinion pieces and lists, they require my full attention and I felt like I would be half-assing them more than usual.

Thank you for understanding. I hope you'll stay with me as I try to graduate college.

xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox

P.S.

A little rant: A lot of people keep asking my Hooyo (Mom) why I'm still in college. I already feel inadequate, now they have to make my mother feel the same. She says that she replies that her daughter will be graduating without debt unlike your children. She's not as savage as that but it's basically the same. I only have a $1600 loan and I'm passing with good enough grades so not to look look like a complete idiot. And when I graduate, I'm definitely not using my degree besides getting money. It looks like I'm wasting my time and in a way I am. It makes me so frustrated. But I'm both working on growing and learning about myself and what I want for my future.

Phew... sorry.

Thanks again. I'll be back really soon.

Mariah and Johnny: Don't worry. They're not dating.

I wanted to share a little about what I've thinking about lately. Both are about Mariah Carey and Johnny Depp.

Both of these instances occurred on the New Year's' Eve.

First, my family want to watch "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". I really truly was stalling to watch this movie because I was afraid they were going to ruin one of my favorite series. But since I'm a sucker for watching a movie in a theater, I went. Like, it was passable and I wanted to write something about passable films in the movie industry one of these days. The climax of the film, always near the end the movie, truly shot up the film from a comfortable 6 to a high 9 for me because my buddy Johnny Depp appeared in the film in the disguise of the main antagonists. Saint Dane style, if you've ever read the Pendragon series by DJ MacHale. I audibly gasped in the theater because I was so shocked to see one of my favorite actors in a Harry Potter movie as a crucial character. My sister got a mouthful while we were in the car because she knew he was in the film and SOMEHOW FORGOT TO TELL ME. If I had known, I would have most likely driven them to the theater myself.

Then in the next couple days, I tried to searched to find a clip of his appearance and I found that some Potter fans were angry about his casting. They asked for a reconsideration of his role or threatened to boycott the film. I understand why people were mad about him participating in the movie. I also don't excuse his alleged abuse. Thankfully, the matter was taken care of by the court of law and a settlement was reached, in which his ex-wife donated the money to show that she wasn't after it. I also think that Johnny Depp is not the type to married. I'm sure he knows that about himself too. He lived 14 years in his union to French actress, Vanessa Paradis. They had two children and never got married. I have come to believe that there are just some people who are too free in their spirit and creativity to be tied down with the word "forever" to one person. I think that it made Depp feel confined and suffocated, like he was doing too much yet always doing too little. I understand I'm projecting my fandom of him to this argument so it seems like I'm ignoring seeing the severity of his actions, but this is what I think. It's been sad to see one of my favorite personalities sink to a level where grotesque behavior, shameful public stunts and all the horrible projects he's chosen over the years lead people to throw him like old century's news.
Now, for Mariah Carey. Like I said, my family and I were watching this live as I was writing my year end list of favorite K-Music songs. Witnessing it, I could practically see the headlines in the newstands. "Mariah wrecks her career", "Mariah Carey can't sing", "How dare Mariah lip-sync?". I've never stanned Mariah Carey, but I respect her hustle. And now that I know a little more about how artists perform, to expect her to sing in the cold December air is almost inhumane. She only did two songs. I mean, BTS did three (Fire, BS&T, and Save Me) and MBC cut out Save Me. They were also lip-syncing and dancing their choreography on a smaller stage that they were used to. Even though antis were also giving BTS hell because they hate them, I think lip-syncing is more understandable to fans when the artist is doing difficult choreo. Carey stated her dilemma throughout her performance and after when releasing a statement. What Carey did wrong was point the finger at Dick Clark Productions for the way they set up the sound for her performance instead of taking the responsibility for disappointing her fans with an unfavorable performance. I hope that in her docu-series, she shows the real behind-the-scenes of her career, while stirring up drama. What American musicians and artists are doing a lot more of now and should have been is showing the general public how hard writing songs and planning a performance really is.
